Robert Murray, Sr. aka 'Big' Rob

Mr. Rob is difficult to describe. I guess the best way I can describe him is with three words: Loyal. Trustworthy. Honorable. In this day and age, especially when money is involved, it's almost impossible to find someone who puts integrity ahead of dollar signs. One of those people is Big Rob.

If you read My Story you'll remember me talking about how none of the big, established fight managers and promoters would give us a chance. Well, Mr. Rob did, and he has been 100% true to his word on everything he promised he would do, not just for me, but also for my whole family. He has an incredibly long history of looking out for his clients and sticking with them through thick and thin. One perfect example is the way he treated a Philadelphia Junior Middleweight fighter named Troy Browning. To this day, as we speak, Troy has a perfect professional record of 20-0. Mr. Rob managed his career and carefully guided him to an undefeated record before an illness caused him to retire when he was 17-0. Most managers would have bent over backward to put their fighter in a money fight, ill or not, if they had spent years and all of those dollars getting their fighter to such a great record as 17-0 like Mr. Rob did. Instead, Mr. Rob said "That's it son. No more boxing! We're going to focus on getting you back to perfect health, forget the perfect record." Together they focused on Troy's mental and physical health and he completely recuperated. Incredibly, after retiring with a record of 17-0, Browning decided that he couldn't get the boxing bug out of his system and he returned to the sport after one of the longest layoffs in the history of boxing - from September 12, 1998 to November 30, 2006! Since coming back in 2006, Browning has won all three of his comeback fights, including what many consider to be the 2007 'Fight of the Year', his dramatic 10 round split decision over Julio Cesar Garcia in Miami on June 22, 2007. Mr. Rob's care and concern for his fighter years earlier might have been the biggest factor in that win.

Mr. Murray is also a very close friend of Muhammad Ali. When Ali's daughter, Mae Mae, wanted to try her hand at becoming a rapper, Ali sent her to live with Mr. Rob and his family for almost two years because Mr. Rob was a talent manager and record producer with the legendary Philadelphia International Records - the Sound of Philadelphia - made famous by songwriting legends Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Also, in another Ali connection, Mr. Rob and the Team Chambers member who handles all of my marketing and advertising affairs, Leland Hardy, met each other through Ali, but that's another story entirely...
